What the numbers mean

Indian bangle sizes such as 2.2, 2.4, 2.6 and 2.8 describe the inner diameter in inches and sixteenths. Size 2.4 means 2 and 4/16 inches, which is 2.25 inches or about 57 millimetres. Size 2.6 is 2 and 6/16 inches, about 60 millimetres.

Measure a bangle that fits

The easiest method is to take a bangle that already fits you well, lay it flat and measure straight across the inside, from inner edge to inner edge. Compare that diameter with the seller's size chart.

Measure your hand

If you have no bangle to compare, bring your thumb and little finger together as if slipping on a bangle and measure around the widest part of the hand with a soft tape. Sellers' charts convert that circumference into a bangle size.

Rigid or openable

Rigid bangles must pass over the widest part of the hand, so size matters most for them. Openable kadas with a hinge or screw fit the wrist rather than the hand and are more forgiving. Glass bangles break under pressure, so do not force a tight pair.
